This project's aim is to foster the renewal of the railway track in the section Ballymena-Derry (45 km in length), in order to improve its condition, to reduce temporary speed restrictions, to improve the passenger ride quality, and to reduce maintenance needs.
The project consists in rectifying 3,000 wet spots on this section of track, converting the railway line from jointed track to continuously welded rail (CWR), and replacing about 8.5 km of track.
This project has been completed.
