The objective of SESAR is to develop the new generation European Air Traffic Management system, in line with the Single European Sky (SES) legislation.
It is a modernisation programme which combines technological and operational aspects and will allocate resources for the development of the required improvements throughout Europe, in both airborne and ground systems.
With SESAR, the European ATM network will become more efficient, better integrated, more cost-efficient, safer and environmentally sustainable.
This action supports the SESAR Development Phase (2007-2013), which will develop the required new generation of technological systems, components and operational procedures as defined in the ATM Master Plan, which was the outcome of the previous Definition Phase (2006-2008). It will be followed by a Deployment Phase (2014-2020) for the large-scale production and implementation of the new ATM infrastructure.
