Studies for the infrastructural improvement of Northern Italy Waterway System

The Action consists of a series of studies to support the preparation of infrastructural improvement of the Northern Italy Waterway System. It is part of a global project which is also being supported through another TEN-T grant for works (2009-IT-00033-E). The global project generally aims at the development of the Po River and connected canals towards class Va and at its multimodal interconnection with existing road, rail and sea network of European relevance. The activities are:

• Elaboration of a Master Plan to provide a framework for the implementation of the global project for the development of the Northern Italy inland waterways (from the Porto Nogaro Port in Friuli Venezia Giulia region to Cremona Inland Port in Lombardy) with a mid-term perspective.
• Executive design of works for adaptation to class V of the Fissero-Tartaro-CanalBianco canal, in particular works to increase the head room under the bridges.
• Definitive design of the free stream of the Po River from Cremona to the intersection with the Mincio river. In order to reduce the impact of the natural variations in water levels and increase navigability in the Po River from 200/240 to 300/320 days/year, free stream adaptation works are necessary.
• Definitive Design of Restructuring of Porto Levante. Porto Levante represents a relevant interchange point between the Canal and the Adriatic sea, where transhipment operations are implemented. The restructuring and enlargement of the facilities will make possible to tranship the freight from/to big deep-sea vessels to smaller barges and river vessels.

This project has been completed.
