The Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque is the largest French port in the Northern Sea and the third biggest port in France in terms of cargo turnover.
The Port currently has long queues during rush hours between the short sea terminal, “Terminal Roulier”, and the E40 highway. Truck traffic generated by the Ro-Ro line between Dunkerque and Dover enters a road with intense urban traffic. The bottlenecks, a railway crossing and two roundabouts, are the cause of traffic jams, insufficient safety and air pollution.
The objectives of this Action are to optimise the port accessibility, to increase safety, to reduce emissions, and to develop sustainable and efficient traffic management by separating local traffic from truck traffic.
These objectives can be achieved by the construction of bridges over crossways, the construction of a road junction, and the installation of a numeric direction traffic sign systems.
The number of bridges and their design will be defined by the contractor winning the public tender. A maximum of three bridges will be constructed.
