Master Plan for the Ports of Cyprus |
The study aims to help the Cyprus Ports Authority implement its vision of making Cyprus ports leaders in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea for servicing import/export trade, transit trade and cruise liners.
The project will evaluate the processes of handling of ships, cargo and passengers with a view to improving them, thus increasing efficiency and lowering costs. A separate study will look into the financial feasibility of the planned expansion and/or upgrading of the Limassol port and quay. Finally, a feasibility and environmental study will investigate the possible extension of the industrial port of Vassiliko to which the shipment of polluted, bulk hazardous and dangerous cargo may be transferred.
State of progress on 31 December 2011:
The feasibility study concerning the expansion of the Limassol port and quay was finalised in June 2008. The feasibility study concerning the possibility of handling dangerous cargo by the industrial port of Vassiliko was completed in June 2010. The Overall study for the optimisation of the use of resources and assets of Cyprus ports started in September 2011 and is expected to be completed by August 2012.
