Rail Baltica feasibility study launched

Creation date: 14 April 2010

On Monday 12 April the Rail Baltica (TEN-T Priority Project 27) feasibility study was launched simultaneously in the three Baltic nations (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia). The study is the first step in the realisation of a rail connection which will eventually link Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, as well as Finland via rail ferry. The project will provide the only rail connection between these countries and will act as a crucial link between the Baltic region and the rest of the EU.

The feasibility study is co-funded by the European Union through the TEN-T Programme and the project is managed by the TEN-T EA. Each Baltic State has been allocated a different portion of the Action, namely:

Lithuania: 2007-LT-27040-S, Studies for Rail Baltica, Lithuanian part

Latvia: 2007-LV-27050-S, Studies for a European gauge line (Latvian studies)

Estonia: 2007-EE-27010-S, Studies for a European gauge line for Rail Baltica (Estonian section)
